RefTake Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 5, 2026
RefTake (“we”, “our”, or “us”) is built so your work stays yours. The app has no accounts, no analytics, and no servers of ours — your projects never leave your device unless you export them.
This policy covers both the RefTake iOS app and this website, reftake.app.
What we collect
RefTake does not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. In particular, the app:
- requires no account or sign-in
- contains no analytics, telemetry, or crash-reporting SDKs
- does not track you across apps or websites
- shows no ads
- never sells, rents, or shares your data with anyone
- the app makes no network connections of its own — your work is never uploaded anywhere
What stays on your device
Everything you create in RefTake — projects, sequences, shots, reference videos, takes, templates, tags, notes, and thumbnails — is stored locally in the app’s own storage on your device. If you have iCloud device backup or iTunes/Finder backup enabled, that data is included in your device backups under Apple’s terms, not ours.
Camera, microphone, and photo library
RefTake asks for camera and microphone access to record video. Photo library access is optional — the app only asks for it if you choose to import a video from your library or save an export back to it. Recordings and imports are processed and stored entirely on your device. RefTake never uploads them.
Deleting your data and revoking access
Because everything lives on your device, deletion is always in your hands. Items you delete in the app are kept in the in-app trash for 30 days (still only on your device) and then permanently removed; you can also empty the trash yourself at any time. Deleting the app removes all of its data immediately. You can revoke RefTake’s camera, microphone, or photo library access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security.
Purchases
Subscriptions and one-time purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. RefTake never sees your payment details. Apple provides the app a purchase entitlement (which products you own) and nothing else; RefTake stores that entitlement state locally to unlock Pro features. Apple’s handling of your purchase data is covered by Apple’s Privacy Policy.
Exports and sharing
When you export takes, image sequences, or project bundles, the files go where you choose — the Files app, the share sheet, or a folder you pick. From that point they are governed by wherever you sent them.
This website
reftake.app is a static site: no cookies, no analytics scripts, no trackers, and nothing to sign into. It is served by Cloudflare, our hosting provider, which — like any web host — briefly processes your IP address and request details to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse; that handling is covered by Cloudflare’s Privacy Policy. We see only aggregate statistics, such as total visits — never anything that identifies you.
If you email support@reftake.app, we receive your address and message and use them only to respond.
Security
Your RefTake data is protected by iOS app sandboxing — other apps on your device cannot read it — and by your device’s built-in encryption. Using a device passcode gives that encryption its full strength.
Children’s privacy
RefTake does not collect data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If a future version of RefTake ever changes any of the above (for example, an optional feature that syncs between your own devices), this policy will be updated before that version ships, with the change noted here.
